If you’ve ever wondered how men feel when you can’t let go of their mistakes from the past, Shaliek has the answer. His song, “The Past,” details a lover who can’t understand why his woman can’t get over his previous mistakes.
Once signed to Universal Records, Shaliek hails from the Bronx, N.Y. His debut on Pendulum Records, “Blood, Sweat and Tears” due out in October is getting plenty of notice given the success of his out of the box hit.
“This is my first album, my first single, my first song out in the world and it’s building up to be a hit,” Shaliek told the Tom Joyner Morning Show. “We’re still working on it, but everybody seems to like it.”

That includes J. Anthony Brown, who murdered Shaliek’s hit, changing it to “Your Expanding Ass.” Shaliek says he was flattered by the remake.
“J. Anthony Brown, you got me on the floor. I still didn’t get up off the floor yet. Your rendition – we gotta do a remix.”
A song that just about every couple can probably relate to came about when Shaleik got a track that he felt was so powerful it needed a song to match.
“When I got the track, I was a little intimidated so I reached out to my boy Fred the Writer and he gave it back to me a week later. And it was “The Past.” I was like, ‘Wow, that is exactly what I wanted to say.’ He gave me the song and I wrote the bridge to it and it was a perfect marriage.”
